The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Ahmad Lawan, has assured the Nigerian Armed Forces that the committee will continue to provide unwavering support and resources to enhance military capabilities and the well-being of armed forces personnel.
Lawan made the statement during an oversight visit to three key defense agencies: the Defense Space Administration (DSA), the National Defense College, and the Military Pension Board (MPB) on Monday. This visit is part of the Committee’s ongoing mandate to oversee and monitor the activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces and its affiliated agencies.

During the visit to the DSA, the Committee engaged with the agency’s leadership, including Director-General, Air Vice-Marshal Lanre Oluwatoyin, who briefed the Committee on the critical role of the agency in strengthening Nigeria’s defense infrastructure. The Committee expressed its full support for the DSA and its operational efforts to bolster national security.
At the National Defense College, Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, the Commandant, welcomed the Committee and provided an extensive overview of the College’s training programs and facilities. The Senate Committee members commended the College for its dedication to developing future leaders of the Nigerian military.
The delegation also met with Brigadier General Bala Zubairu, the Acting Chairman of the Military Pension Board. General Zubairu presented a comprehensive report on the Board’s operations, challenges, and plans for improvement. Senator Lawan highlighted the importance of timely pension payments to retired military personnel and their families, emphasizing that their service must be recognized and supported.
In his closing remarks, Senator Lawan reaffirmed his confidence in the Nigerian Armed Forces’ ability to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He commended the leadership of the various agencies for their professionalism and dedication.
“The commitment to ensuring the security and stability of our nation is truly commendable. The Senate Committee on Defence will continue to provide necessary resources and support to enhance your capabilities and improve the welfare of our military personnel,” Senator Lawan said.
