Not less than 20 suspected Vandals and Manhole Thieves were paraded by the Federal Capital Territory Command of the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) on Monday.
The Commandant of the FCT, Olusola Odumosu, while briefing Journalists during the parade stated that the suspects, who disguised as homeless citizens, were arrested at the odd hours of the day, vandalizing government properties.
It will be recalled that the Odumosu upon resumption of office declared war against vandals and manhole thieves in the FCT.
The Suspects arrested include John Ahmed, Abba Musa, Jack Ikekwe, Kabir dauda Ummar, Peter Eseh James, Monday Magaji, Ukechukwu Ifeanyi, ‘Anthony Obey, Habibu Abubakar, Flavour Amos, to mention a few.
While promising that the Corp will ensure its sanitization of the territory of the activities of Scanvengers, he warned those with criminal intentions to relocate from the territory or risk being prosecuted.e
Odumosu also said the suspects will be handed over to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for proper prosecution, adding that, if found not guilty, the law will take its original course.
While some of the suspects were arrested when found sleeping under the bridge and other unauthorized properties, others claimed they were arrested on their way home.
Anthony Obeh and Okechukuwu Ifeanyi were arrested from 1 a.m. to 3 a.m. at various locations, sleeping under the bridge and inside a police post in Abuja.
