The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, says the Corps will strengthen efforts to curb and arrest manhole thieves operating within the territory.
Odumosu said this while addressing personnel of the FCT NSCDC Command after taking over from Commandant Peter Maigari, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The new Head of the Command said that theft of manholes and other critical infrastructure in the FCT was of major concern to the Corps.
According to him, FCT being the seat of power needs great attention especially in the protection of critical national asset, hence, manhole theft must be given more attention.
“Our mandate places us as the lead agency in charge of the protection of critical assets so if we still have incidences of manhole thefts then it means we are not living up to expectations.
“There are so many infrastructure theft on-going in Abuja and this must stop so we are declaring war on these vandals and manhole thieves,” he said.
The commandant said that the Corps under his leadership would actively go after vandals in the territory through proper implementation of security measures.
“The vandals have refused to relent, we too must not relent until we put them where they belong,” he said.
Odumosu said that he was dedicated to serving the Corps and country at large, adding, that his appointment was a call to duty.
“I will give my best in ensuring the mandate given by Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, is accomplished to the latter.
“It is a new dawn in FCT, the beginning of hard work as I have been directed to restructure this command,” he said.
He charged all personnel of the Command to support his leadership, adding that, without the support of officers and men of the corps, his administration would not succeed.
“We must reset our mind, change your mind-sets and know you now have a leadership that will listen to you, so you must send the right signals that NSCDC has come to stay.
“I need your maximum support, I am here in peace to serve and so I look forward to us working together,” he said.
He urged all officers and men to reinforce discipline and civility in the discharge of their duties as the Corps would not pardon any act of indiscipline.
“Discipline must be our watch word so everything you do must showcase civility since we have a social compatibility and that’s one of the advantages we have,” he said.
The FCT Command helmsman further called on residents of the FCT to provide credible and timely information that could help tackle insecurity in the territory to the command.
Earlier, Maigari while handing over to Odumosu, thanked all personnel for supporting him during his time as head of the Command.
Maigari, who said that he was posted to head the Command on June 15, 2021, charged personnel to support Commandant Odumosu in taking the Corps to greater height by working efficiently and with dedication.
