Gwagwalada Power Plant Project Will Contribute Positively To Socio-Economic Development of The Nation: Hon. Okojie
The House Committee Chairman on Petroleum Resources (Midstream), Hon. Odianosen Henry Okojie, has applauded the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), for this laudable initiative which is aimed at supporting the Federal Government’s gas-to-power aspirations through the effective utilization of Nigeria’s abundant gas resources. “The NNPC has played a pivotal role in the energy sector, and the commencement of this power project further exemplifies their dedication to driving positive change in the nation’s energy landscape”, he said.
Hon. Okojie, the Representative of Esan North East/Esan South East constituency of Edo state, expressed hope in the capabilities of the Federal Government saying the project is long-term, and one assured in the right direction to contribute positively to the socio-economic development of the nation as whole.
While addressing journalists at the event, Hon. Okojie mentioned how the Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant project is strategic in its placement, and upon completion will help in increasing the Nation’s power generation capacity. In the same statement, he reassured Nigerians that the project will significantly bolster the nation’s electricity supply, strengthen the re-emerging economic growth, and foster the long-awaited industrial development among others.
In his appreciation remarks to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Tinubu, Hon. Okojie, applauded the robust policies of his administration since inauguration, and further commended Mr. President’s unwavering commitment to the Nation’s development. “First and foremost, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed His Excellency, Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces for gracing this occasion with his presence and performing the groundbreaking ceremony. His unwavering commitment to the development and progress of our Nation is truly commendable, and his presence here today, underscores the importance of this project for the growth of our country – Nigeria” He stated.
Hon. Okojie also appreciatied his towering support and collaboration which he noted was very instrumental in ensuring the successful implementation of the project.

The occasion witnessed the presence of His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR; (President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria); Babagana Umara Zulum CON (Executive Governor of Borno State); representativeof the speaker, Hon. The Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant (GIPP), is expected to receive gas supply through the Ajaokuta – Kaduna- Kano (AKK) Gas pipeline which is currently at its advanced stages and is estimated to provide $700-800 million annually as projected gross revenue within its first decade.
