Governor Aliyu Of Sokoto Urges Vice President Shettima to Verify Facts Before Statements

Governor Aliyu of Sokoto State has called on Vice President Kashim Shettima to ensure thorough fact-checking before making comments on sensitive national issues. This comes in response to Shettima’s recent remarks concerning the protection of the Sultan of Sokoto.

Governor Aliyu, speaking through his spokesperson Abubakar Bawa, criticized Shettima for not verifying the circulating rumors about a purported plan to depose Sultan Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar before addressing the public. Aliyu emphasized that there has never been any attempt to remove the Sultan from his position.

“The fact of the matter is that there was never any attempt to sack the Sultan,” Aliyu stated, assuring that the Sultan enjoys all his entitled powers and freedoms without any restrictions from the state government.

The Vice President had made his comments at the North-West peace and security summit in Katsina State, stressing the need for vigilance and protective measures for the Sultan. Shettima highlighted the Sultan’s significant role in promoting peace and stability in the country.

“It has come to my attention that there are circulating reports suggesting a plan to depose the revered Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar. As Vice President, it is my duty to ensure that the sanctity of our traditional institutions is upheld and protected,” Shettima stated.

Shettima further emphasized the importance of traditional leaders in maintaining national stability and urged stakeholders to prioritize dialogue and respect in addressing such matters. “We must remember that stability in our traditional institutions translates to stability in our nation as a whole,” he added.

Governor Aliyu’s response underscores the necessity for accuracy in public discourse, especially on issues that could escalate tensions, and calls for unity and peace in supporting and respecting both traditional and political leaders.
