In a bid to address the rising hunger crisis and the marginalization of widows in Nigeria, an international faith-based organization, Deborah Generation: The Fire Place, recently organized a one-day prayer walk in the Chika community along the Abuja airport road.
The event, which also took place in several African nations, South America, and the United States, was themed “Jesus Christ: Liberating the Vulnerable Globally.” It is spearheaded by Mrs. Grace Eisape, a retired judge from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and current educator in the United States, who serves as the president of the organization.
According to Mrs. Eisape, the initiative is inspired by the Holy Spirit and aims to reach hundreds of widows worldwide. “Our mission is to ensure that widows have access to basic necessities such as food, healthcare, and legal support,” she said. “We want to address and curb harmful traditional practices that often target widows based on unfounded suspicions regarding their husbands’ deaths.”

During the event, Pastor Emmanuel, the International Coordinator of the initiative, addressed the widows in the Chika community, urging them to remain resilient. “This program is designed to continuously meet your needs—whether it’s hunger, medical care, or legal rights,” he reassured them.
Dr. Robert, who provided health advice to the widows, emphasized the importance of a balanced diet, regular health checkups, and social engagement as ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and prevent heart-related issues.
Legal practitioner Salamatu Yusuf also spoke to the widows, assuring them of their legal protections under Nigerian law. “There are laws in place to prevent the marginalization of widows, and we are here to ensure those rights are upheld,” Yusuf stated.
The event concluded with the distribution of both cooked meals and raw food items to the widows. Many of the attendees left the event with renewed hope, expressing gratitude and requesting that similar initiatives be held regularly.
