EFCC and Cubana Chief Priest Reach Out-of-Court Settlement

In a recent development at the Lagos State High Court, the ongoing legal battle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and popular socialite Cubana Chief Priest has taken a significant turn as both parties have agreed to settle the matter out of court.

Representing the defendant, Chikaosolu SAN, informed Justice Kehinde Ogundare that they have reached a mutual agreement with the EFCC to resolve the dispute outside the courtroom. In a gesture of reconciliation, they have opted to withdraw the initial objection notice, paving the way for further discussions aimed at reaching a settlement.

Highlighting their stance, the defendant’s counsel cited Section 14(2) of the EFCC Establishment Act, which empowers them to consolidate offenses in the pursuit of justice. This strategic move underscores their commitment to addressing the matter with fairness and integrity.

On the prosecution side, Bilikisu Buhari confirmed the receipt of the defense’s application and assured that it is currently under careful review. This signifies a cooperative effort from both sides to facilitate a swift resolution to the legal proceedings.

In a proposed timeline, the defendant’s counsel suggested June 5th as the deadline for submitting the settlement report, subject to court approval. Justice Kehinde Oguns concurred and agreed to schedule a hearing for the submission of the settlement report on the specified date.

The decision to pursue an out-of-court settlement reflects a constructive approach towards resolving the dispute amicably, potentially sparing both parties from prolonged litigation and ensuring a fair and equitable resolution to the matter.
