Court Adjourns Hearing of Alleged Customs Comptroller-General Impersonator in Abuja
In a case that has captured national attention, the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the hearing of Ibrahim Shu’aibu, a 50-year-old man accused of impersonating the Comptroller-General of Customs and other prominent individuals in Nigeria.
Shu’aibu stands accused of using these false identities to perpetrate fraudulent activities, including the solicitation of money from unsuspecting citizens in exchange for fake job appointment letters.
The arrest of Shu’aibu by the Nigeria Customs Service’s Police Unit on January 29, 2024, sent shockwaves through the country. The Service had alerted the media to Shu’aibu’s apprehension, highlighting the severity of his alleged crimes. During Monday’s court session, the lead Counsel of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abidemi Adewumi-Aluko, presented a nine-count charge against the defendant, to which Shu’aibu pleaded not guilty.
Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Binta Nyako ordered that Shu’aibu be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service until the bail requirements are fulfilled.
