As part of efforts to commemorate International Children’s Day, Senate President Senator Godswill Akpabio has encouraged Nigerian children to remain resilient and determined. Represented by the Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, Senator Akpabio addressed selected students from schools across the Federal Capital Territory at the National Assembly.
In his keynote address titled “The Hope of Our Country,” Senator Bamidele drew inspiration from the story of Helen Keller. Keller, who overcame deafness and blindness, serves as a testament to perseverance and courage. “Despite her seemingly insurmountable obstacles, she refused to let her limitations define her,” Bamidele remarked, urging children to adopt the same spirit of resilience

Senator Akpabio also emphasized the importance of integrity, advising the young audience to build their character on the cornerstone of honesty, fairness, and kindness. “Uphold the values of honesty, fairness, and kindness,” he stated, highlighting these as essential qualities for future leaders.
The event, attended by other senators, included an interactive session where students posed questions about legislative responsibilities. Senators, including the Senate minority whip , engaged with the students, fostering a deeper understanding of the legislative process and the role of lawmakers.
