The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, led a delegation of Nigerian Senators on a condolence visit to the family of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Lagos on Saturday. During the visit, Akpabio recalled his shock upon receiving the news of Senator Ubah’s sudden passing over two weeks ago.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Jackson Udom, Akpabio recounted the moment he learned of Ubah’s death. “I was jolted when I received the news of the death of a very dedicated and patriotic colleague, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. When Senator Mpigi called me, I had no idea it was about his death. I was thinking of something else entirely,” Akpabio said, reflecting on the devastating news.

He continued, “If you remember, I couldn’t even finish the conversation. I threw away the phone in shock. We never thought Senator Ubah would leave us so soon, but who are we to question God?”
Akpabio described Senator Ubah as one of the pillars of the 10th Senate and expressed deep regret over his passing. “I apologize for not getting back to you after the call. I was devastated by the news. We learned of your return to the country two days ago, and we decided to come and condole with you, the children, and the entire family.”
Speaking to Ubah’s children, Akpabio offered words of comfort: “Your father brought you into this world and handed you over to God. Keep his memory alive. Death comes to us all, but may none of us have to bury our children. Take pride in being able to honor your father’s life.”
On behalf of the 10th Senate, Akpabio expressed condolences, stating, “We can’t question God; it is His will. We wouldn’t have wished this upon any of our colleagues or anyone else. We will stand with you to ensure he receives a befitting burial. Senator Ubah left behind many legacies, and may his soul rest in peace.”
Responding on behalf of the family, Prince Chidi Orizu (Capt.) expressed gratitude for the Senate delegation’s visit and assured them that they would be informed of the burial arrangements.
Accompanying Akpabio on the visit were Senate Minority Whip Osita Ngwu, Senators Saliu Mustapha, Sunday Karimi, and Adetokunbo Abiru.
